You're Using AI Wrong - And It's Making You Invisible

Let me tell you what I'm seeing out in the field right now, and it is not pretty. Agents are rushing to plug AI into every corner of their business - their emails, their listing descriptions, their social captions, their follow-up sequences - and they are genuinely convinced they are winning. They are not winning. They are blending in at a speed they have never blended in before.

AI is the great equalizer. That sounds like a compliment. It is not. When every agent in your market uses the same tools, fed by the same prompts, producing the same polished-but-hollow output, the person who loses is the one who forgot to show up as a human being. That person is probably you right now, and I say that with love.

The Copy-Paste Trap That Is Killing Your Brand

Here is what a typical agent does with AI in 2026. They open a chat window, type something like 'write me a listing description for a 3-bed 2-bath in [city],' paste whatever comes out, and call it done. Then the agent across the street does the exact same thing. And the one three doors down. You know what buyers and sellers are reading? The same listing description, over and over, with the addresses swapped out.

Your brand is not your logo. Your brand is not your headshot. Your brand is the specific way you see a home, a neighborhood, a market condition - and the specific way you communicate that to people who are trusting you with the biggest financial decision of their lives. When you outsource that to a generic prompt, you are not saving time. You are erasing yourself.

I am not anti-AI. I use it every single day. But I use it the way a good carpenter uses a nail gun - to speed up the work I already know how to do, not to replace the part where I actually think.

Where AI Should Live in Your Business - and Where It Should Not

Let me give you the line I draw, because this is where the agents I coach start pulling away from the pack.

AI belongs in your process, not in your personality.

Use it to transcribe your voice memos and turn them into first drafts. Use it to build transaction checklists and systems you never have to rebuild again. Use it to analyze market data faster than you could on your own. Use it to draft the bones of a buyer presentation and then - and this is the part most agents skip - rewrite the whole thing in your actual words before it ever touches a client.

What AI should not do is write your market updates as if it knows your neighborhood. It does not walk those streets. It does not know that the coffee shop on the corner just closed and that matters to buyers. It does not know that the school rezoning rumor is true and you heard it from the principal last Tuesday. That local, human, relationship-driven intelligence is your moat. Do not fill that moat in with generated content.

The Prompt That Actually Makes AI Useful

The agents seeing the best results right now are not using better AI. They are using better inputs. They spend five minutes jotting down their raw, unfiltered observations - what they noticed at the showing, what the sellers told them over coffee, what the neighborhood feels like at 7am on a Saturday - and then they hand that to AI and say, 'turn this into a first draft that sounds like these notes.'

That is a fundamentally different workflow than 'write me something about this address.' One produces something with your fingerprints on it. The other produces something that could have come from anyone, anywhere, at any time.

Try it this week on one listing, one market update, one client email. Feed the machine your actual thoughts first. See what comes back. I promise you it will feel different - and your clients will feel the difference too, even if they cannot name why.

Visibility in 2026 Belongs to the Specific

The agents who are growing right now are not the ones with the fanciest tools. They are the ones who are relentlessly specific - about their market, about their clients, about their point of view. AI can amplify specificity. It cannot manufacture it.

You have observations, experiences, and relationships that no language model on earth has access to. That is not a small thing. That is your entire competitive advantage. Protect it. Feed it into everything you produce. Stop letting technology flatten the very thing that makes you worth calling.

The market does not need another agent who sounds like a press release. It needs you - the real, specific, informed, opinionated version of you. Go be that person, and use AI to help you do it faster.
